It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that we formally announce the 2014 Air Hockey World Championship! This event will be held in Denver, Colorado in partnership with the Denver County Fair (DCF) on the weekend of August 1st - 3rd. This year we have the very exciting opportunity to be front and center at an event that already draws more than 15,000 people. This indoor fair also covers over 300,000 air conditioned square feet. DCF organizers have expressed their desire to make us as visible as possible and their plan is to put us right at the entry so all of their attendees will see us as soon as they walk in the door. The DCF team is VERY excited to be featuring us and they are doing everything in their power to make this one of the best air hockey tournaments ever. We are also very thankful that Valley-Dynamo has agreed to sponsor us and ship our tournament tables to the event.

This event will without a doubt feature something for everyone. While you are off the table, the DCF features multiple pavilions with different types of exhibits including a kids pavilion for those of you with families, an Animal pavilion, a beer pavilion, and much more. Even better is that the fair is free to all tournament entrants! More information regarding the DCF can be found at www.denvercountyfair.org.

More details will be released as they become available but book your tickets now and don't miss out on what promises to be a fun event for everyone!

Friday August 1st - 10 AM to 3 PM

Like all other events, this is a double elimination tournament. Matches are best 3 games of 5. Teams are seeded based on the Mitic rating system. When your team is up, the opposing team of the lower seed chooses who starts from their opposition and vice versa. A player remains on the table until scored upon. Then his/her partner steps up and takes over until he/she is scored upon. And so on and so on... Finding a partner whose game compliments your own is often the challenge. Style, stamina, and theme are often the "in" thing. Some teams wear catchy uniforms or jerseys and come up with colorful names. The event is very serious but typically more fun and more adrenaline-based. Friendly trash talking is frequent and well accepted. If you've never played Air hockey doubles, you haven't really lived yet. Find a teammate and go for it!

Friday August 1st - 3 PM to 9 PM

In this event, all players are assigned a classification level of 0-6 with 6 being the top level based on their experience and skill. (New players are typically classified as zeros) The tournament itself is double elimination meaning a player must lose twice to be eliminated. Matches are the best 2 games of 3, and all matches undergo a point "leveling" where the lower classified player receives points for each game at the start equal to the difference between the levels. So when a level 5 plays a level 2, the level 2 begins each game 3-0. All games are played to 7. (The only exception is that level 6 only spots 5 to a level 0 as well as a level 1.) To add to the excitement, before the Mile-High Challenge begins, some of the top level players participating in the event will have cash bounties on their heads. Any player skilled (or lucky) enough to knock out one of these selected players will win a cash bounty! These tournaments are exciting because, unlike the big events where the pool of players with a reasonable chance to win is very small, in a point spotted event, anyone can win!

**UPDATE 7/9/14**

We are excited to announce that Sean Zimmerman and Phil Tesoriero of the Denver Cutthroats will be participating in this event.  If you are fortunate enough to get matched up against one of them, and then knock them out of the tournament, you could win a Denver Cutthroats prize pack!

2 Day Event

Saturday August 2nd - 10 AM to 8 PM

Sunday August 3rd - 10 AM to 6 PM

Open Singles is the main event. This is THE event. If a player has a choice of only one, this is it. At the end of this hard core intense every man for himself event, a World Champion is crowned. Again with the double elimination format, most or all matches in the main tournament are the best 4 games of 7. The longer matches allow the more skilled player to adapt and achieve victory. Players are seeded based on the Mitic rating system. Day two features the top 16 best players in the world competing for the prized World Champion spot. Nothing you have ever witnessed will prepare you for grand master level air hockey. No other sport in the world can get an onlookers heart racing like the intensity of a match at 3 games each at 6-6 in the 7th game and one player attempting the winning shot and his opponent digs deep in her concentration and calculations to try to capture the puck. As the event unwinds to the final two competitors, only one truth remains: Ibi volo existus unus solus. (There can be only one.)
